MR mammography is now considered to be the most reliable procedure for early detection of malignant tumours of the breast.
The procedure is significantly more sensitive than X-ray mammography, which detects only about one third of all tumours. All women can benefit from MR mammography; it is recommended especially for young women, patients with breast implants as well as in cases of statistically particularly high risk of breast cancer. In these, but also in many other cases in which suspicious findings cannot be clarified with palpation, ultrasound or X-ray, MR mammography is a very reasonable method for early recognition of breast cancer. Therapies can also be planned and monitored with the magnetic resonance scanner.
